A 39-year-old woman in Medford was seriously hurt when the vehicle she was driving veered off the road and struck a tree, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

The woman, whose name wasn't released, is in serious condition at Stony Brook University Hospital, the department wrote in a news release.

The crash happened on Horseblock Road at about 1:40 a.m. as she drove a 2019 Honda Civic eastbound.

Statewide, there were 371,520 crashes in 2021, in which 146,720 people were injured or killed, including 1,105 killed, 11,188 seriously hurt, and 18,494 moderately hurt. Drivers represented 634 of those killed, 6,738 of those seriously injured, and 9,965 of those moderately hurt, according to the Albany-based Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research.
