Medical emergency may have caused crash
A driver who police said may have suffered a medical emergency died following a low-speed crash Tuesday night in Mount Sinai, police said.
John DiBella, 65, of Mount Sinai, was killed when his 2002 Kia struck a utility pole on northbound County Road 83 "at a slow rate of speed," police said.
The accident was at the northwest corner of Canal Road at 10:50 p.m., police said. DiBella was pronounced dead at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson.
Police said they believe DiBella suffered a medical emergency before the crash.
Police said the investigation into the accident is continuing and the vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
