A 19-year-old Coram man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after he crashed his car into a wooded area off Sunrise Highway in Brookhaven early Wednesday, police said.

The driver, identified as Michael Maresca, was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, Suffolk County police said. He was issued a desk appearance ticket.

Police said Maresca was driving east on Sunrise Highway when he lost control of his car east of Exit 57, Horseblock Road, and crossed the median -- crashing into the woods.

He was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue. His condition was unknown.

The accident occurred just before 2 a.m., closing the road, which reopened before 6 a.m., police said.
