A 39-year-old woman was killed early Friday when she was struck by a car as she attempted to cross Middle Country Road on the Coram-Selden border, Suffolk County police said.

Police said the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. and resulted in the closure of Middle Country Road between Adirondack Drive and County Road 83 -- Patchogue-Mount Sinai Road -- until 5:39 a.m.

Police said the woman, whose identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin, was crossing the road headed south when she was struck by an eastbound 2011 Honda Civic. The driver remained on the scene, and police said neither he nor his female passenger were injured.

The driver has not been charged and police said there is no apparent criminality.
