A two-vehicle crash in Centereach on Friday afternoon sent several people to the hospital and closed a main roadway for about four hours, Suffolk police said.

Seven people were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, but details on the crash, which happened about 5:10 p.m., were not immediately available, police said.

The vehicles crashed on Middle Country Road, which was shut down in both directions and did not fully reopen until 9 p.m., police said.

The eastbound lanes had been shut down at Forrest Avenue and the westbound side was closed at Hammond Lane, police said.

The crash did not appear to be criminal in nature, police said, and no charges have been filed.
