A woman was hit by a car and killed while walking on Rocky Point Road in Middle Island at 8:20 p.m. Christmas Eve, Suffolk County police said.

Police said in a news release that the 46-year-old pedestrian, whose name they are withholding until they can notify her family, was hit about 600 feet north of Bailey Road by a southbound Kia sedan driven by Morning Yancey, 20, of Port Jefferson Station.

The impact caused the victim to strike a 2005 Dodge sedan stopped in the center median, police said. A Suffolk medical examiner’s physician assistant pronounced her dead at the scene.

Yancey was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license, police said. The Dodge driver, Liam Toman, 20, of Southold, was not injured.

Police impounded both vehicles for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
