Miller Place driver hits tree after sliding on ice, police say

A Miller Place woman was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after she lost control of her car on ice and hit a tree Friday morning, Suffolk County police said.
The single-car crash occurred at 7:55 a.m. on southbound Miller Place-Yaphank Road in Miller Place.
Police said the driver, Melissa Westerlund, 34, was in her 2009 Toyota when “the vehicle slid on ice,” striking the tree.
Westerlund was taken by Miller Place Fire Department Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was being treated for undisclosed injuries.
There were no charges.
