A 70-year-old Miller Place man died after being critically injured in a late-night fire at his home on Parkside Avenue, Suffolk County police said Friday morning.

The identity of the victim will not be released until his family has been notified, police said.

Initial indications are that the fire was noncriminal, police said.

The blaze was reported at 11:50 p.m. Thursday and rescuers rushed to the home, where the Miller Place Fire Department forced entry into the residence, police said.

Rescuers tried to resuscitate the man, who was then taken to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, Suffolk County fire communications officials said.

Police said the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Five fire departments responded to the scene — Miller Place, Rocky Point, Sound Beach, Mount Sinai and Middle Island — along with Port Jefferson ambulance, authorities said.

The blaze was under control by 12:22 a.m. Friday, county fire officials said.
