Emergency personnel investigate the scene of accident where a woman was killed when she was struck by a hit-and-run truck driver on North Country Road in Miller Place on Oct. 18, 2014, Suffolk police said. Credit: AJ Ryan Stringer News Service

A Miller Place woman was fatally injured Saturday night when she was struck by a hit-and-run truck driver, Suffolk County police said.

Tracy Mangino, 40, was walking east near 362 N. Country Rd., east of Block Island Drive, in Miller Place when a commercial box truck hit her and sped away about 11:15 p.m., police said.

Mangino was taken by ambulance to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson where she died from her injuries, police said. The truck driver has not been identified.

The Suffolk County Police Vehicular Crime Unit is investigating the death. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or 800-220-TIPS.
