A 17-year-old driver is in critical but stable condition, while his 17-year-old male passenger suffered minor injuries, after a single-vehicle crash that closed a section of Montauk Highway in West Babylon early Monday, Suffolk County police said.

Police said Jacob Awad, of West Babylon, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer west on Montauk Highway, at the intersection of Beachwood Drive, at about 1:10 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, which overturned crashing into a utility pole.

The accident occurred near Beachwood Drive.

The driver and passenger were both transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip.

The road, which was closed between Nehring Avenue and Fleets Point Drive, reopened shortly before 8 a.m. Monday.
