A power line short-circuited after it came into contact with tree branches Friday morning in East Northport, leaving more than 2,000 customers without electricity, the Long Island Power Authority said.

A check of the LIPA power outage map showed 2,145 customers without power as of 7 a.m. A company spokesman said emergency crews were on the scene and had repaired the wires involved in the original outage but had found a subsequent problem that needed repairs.

Two-thirds of the homes still without power were expected to be restored by about 8 a.m., the spokesman said.

It was not clear when all repairs would be completed.
