A motorcyclist died Wednesday night after he was struck by a vehicle trying to make a turn, shutting down a main thoroughfare in Commack, Suffolk police said.

The victim was going north about 5 p.m. on Indian Head Road when a motorist going south tried to turn left onto Kings Park Road, police said.

The motorcyclist was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured and stayed at the scene, police said.

Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check, authorities said.

As Fourth Precinct detectives investigated, a half-mile stretch of Indian Head Road was closed off between Byron and Kings Park roads, police said.

Other details were not immediately available.
