A Bayport man was killed Wednesday when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a wooded area in Southampton, police said.

Southampton town police received a 911 call of debris in the southbound roadway of County Road 51, south of Speonk Riverhead Road. Just before seeing the debris, the 911 caller spotted a motorcyclist traveling in the same direction who had passed the caller at a high speed, police said.

Town and state police responded to the scene with members of the Flanders Fire Department and located Rafael Andre Penalas, 28 of Bayport, badly injured and unconscious in the nearby woods.

He was taken by ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where he died from his injuries, police said.

Southampton detectives said no criminality was suspected.
