Motorcyclist dies in crash on Sunrise Highway in Southampton Town
A motorcycle crash in the Town of Southampton left a man dead Saturday afternoon.
New York State Police said that a motorcycle being driven by Donald Ellers, 64, of Patchogue, crashed around 3:30 p.m. Ellers was eastbound on Sunrise Highway east of County Road 111 near Eastport when his Harley-Davidson left the roadway.
The motorcycle continued into the center median where it struck a guide wire and ejected Ellers; he died instantly, police said.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Police ask anyone with information about the crash to contact 631-756-3300.
