Motorcyclist critical after hit-and-run
A pickup driver fled the scene after striking and critically injuring a dirt bike operator in Central Islip on Friday, police said.
Ricardo Reid, 21, of 15 Walbridge Ave., the operator of the unregistered Suzuki motorcycle, was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with severe head, neck and back injuries, Suffolk police said.
Reid was struck from behind by a 2002 GMC pickup truck on Apricot Street near Leaf Avenue about 3:30 p.m., police said. The driver of the truck then left the vehicle there and fled the area on foot, police said.
“We’re not sure whether the operator of the truck is the owner of the truck,” said Det. Sgt. William Rand of the third squad. “That’s still under investigation.” It does not appear the truck was stolen, Rand said.
Detectives asked that anyone with information concerning the incident call the third squad detectives at 631-854-8352 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220 TIPS.
