A male motorcyclist died Wednesday after crashing with a car on Montauk Highway in Blue Point, police said.

Steven Larsen was driving a 2016 Yamaha motorcycle west on Montauk Highway when he passed a vehicle on the left at a high rate of speed, police said. He hit an eastbound 2013 Honda Civic making a left turn into the parking lot of Eastern Athletic Club at 9 Montauk Hwy. about 6:53 a.m., Suffolk police said in a news release.

Larsen, 25, of Durkee Lane in East Patchogue, and the Honda driver, Nancy Schlener, 77, of Sayville, were both taken by Patchogue Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where Larsen was pronounced dead and Schlener was treated for minor injuries, police said.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives ask anyone with information on this crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.

The subsequent accident investigation closed Montauk Highway between Bell Avenue and Nicolls Road for several hours, police said. One lane had reopened by late morning, police said.
