Cops: Centereach man killed in motorcycle crash

A motorcyclist was killed Friday when he collided with a vehicle making an illegal U-turn in Centereach, Suffolk police said.

George Kellerman, 58, of Shearwater Way in Centereach, was riding a 2003 Harley-Davidson northbound at around 11 a.m. when he crashed into a 2004 Toyota that was making an unlawful turn in front of 83 Horseblock Road, investigators said.

Kellerman was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Toyota, Jose Diaz Benitez, and his 2-year-old son, who was in a car seat in the vehicle, were not injured, police said.

Diaz Benitez, 39, of Mark Tree Road in Centereach, was issued tickets for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and improper U-turn, authorities said.
