A motorcyclist was killed Sunday night after he lost control of his bike, veered across a lane of traffic and left the roadway into trees and brush in Manorville, Suffolk police said.

Joseph Hancock, 34, was riding his vehicle east on Mill Road -- a meandering two-lane road that runs for about 4.5 miles between Manorville and Calverton -- when he lost control and hit a tree, police said. He was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where he was declared dead.

The crash occurred about 7:35 p.m. east of David Terry Road, police said. No other vehicles were involved.
