A 33-year-old Farmingville man was seriously injured when police said he lost control of his motorcycle in Mattituck Sunday and struck a pole.

The accident occurred just before 6 p.m. near the intersection of Route 25 and Love Lane, Southold Town police said.

Police said Michael D. Lourine was riding a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle when he "failed to negotiate a curve," struck a curb -- and was ejected. Lourine then struck his head on a utility pole, police said.

Police said Lourine was transported by the Mattituck Fire Department to Peconic Bay Medical Center with serious injuries. The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing, police said.
