Mount Sinai's football team wasn't the only winner during homecoming festivities last Saturday.

The Mustangs beat East Hampton 33-0, but during the homecoming parade before the game, victory was already being celebrated.

Mount Sinai's varsity girls lacrosse team shared the spotlight, carrying a banner down the parade route to celebrate its 2015 state title run.

The champions, coached by Al Bertolone, were honored during the halftime celebration during a ceremony in which they received their championship rings.

"We came together again not only as a team but as a family," starting goalie Hannah Van Middelem said of the title run. "It was a great way to celebrate our success with the community."

According to Van Middelem, the presentation of the championship rings was a big secret. The ceremony was planned by Mount Sinai High School athletic director Scott Reh.

"There was so much anticipation and emotion leading up to that moment," Reh said. "We have two state championship titles in the past three years [and] it has been such a great accomplishment for our program."
