An Amityville man was killed early Saturday morning after he lost control of his car and crashed into the Long Island Rail Road station platform in Deer Park, MTA police said.
George T. Seeley III, 45, was driving north on Corbin Avenue in Deer Park shortly after midnight when he attempted a turn at Pine Aire Drive. Seeley's 2010 Dodge Caliber spun out of control and crashed into the eastbound LIRR platform, said MTA spokesman Salvatore Arena.
Seeley was taken by ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he later died of his injuries, Arena said.
Train service on the Ronkonkoma Branch was suspended for a short time, and several early morning trains were delayed. Service has since resumed and LIRR crews are making temporary repairs to the damaged platform.
The cause of the accident will not be determined until autopsy results are performed by the Suffolk County medical examiner, Arena said.
