Authorities say a car veered off the Southern State Parkway, struck a tree and burst into flames, killing five people, including two children.

New York State Police said early Sunday that a Honda Accord driven by 37-year-old Myriam Labrun, of Brooklyn, was traveling westbound on the Southern State Parkway when it left the highway just east of exit 38 just before 11 p.m. Saturday. The vehicle struck a tree before bursting into flames. Officials say three adults and two children in the vehicle died in the crash.

State police did not immediately release any information on the other victims of the crash.

State police say there is not known why the car left the highway. They say the cause of the crash in under investigation.
