The motorcyclist who was killed Monday night when he collided with a sport utility vehicle on Montauk Highway in East Patchogue has been identified as Elliot B. Smith, 42, of North Babylon, police said.

Police originally said Smith was 41.

Both drivers were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center by North Patchogue Fire Department Rescue. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the East Patchogue hospital. Volpe suffered what police described as "non-life-threatening" injuries.

It was not immediately clear if Volpe was admitted to the hospital -- or if she was treated and released.

No charges have been filed.

Police said both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing Tuesday.
