N. Babylon school on brief lockdown after gunman scare
A scare over a potential gunman in the neighborhood led to a lockdown Wednesday morning at North Babylon High School, police said.
Suffolk County police said a 911 call was placed at 10:19 a.m. reporting a possible sighting -- but a subsequent investigation did not locate a suspect. The lockdown lasted less than two hours.
The investigation is continuing, police said.
Police said a student walking to school reported seeing someone with "what appeared to be a gun" outside the North Babylon Public Library on Deer Park Avenue, across the street, leading to the lockdown of the high school.
There was no threat involving the school, police said.
A representative for the school was not immediately available Wednesday.
