Navy sailor evacuated to Southampton
A sailor aboard a Navy ship about 22 miles south of Montauk Point was evacuated by air Wednesday to Southampton Hospital after experiencing abdominal pains, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
After consulting with a doctor, a Coast Guard rescue boat from Station Shinnecock was dispatched to the USS Oak Hill, an amphibious support ship that was on its from a port visit to Bristol, R.I., for that city's Fourth of July celebration to its home port in Virginia Beach, the Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard said the unidentified sailor was in stable condition after the transfer. The hospital could not update his condition Thursday.
