Man found unconscious in Avalon Huntington Station pool in serious condition

A man is in serious condition after he nearly drowned in a Huntington Station pool at an apartment complex Friday, Suffolk police said.
The emergency happened around 4:30 p.m. at the Avalon Huntington Station complex on East 5th Street, the department said in a news release. Huntington Station resident George Barrett, 69, was swimming in the facility's in-ground pool, became unconscious and was found floating by a bystander.
Three people nearby pulled Barrett out of the pool, gave him CPR and called 911, police said. He was taken to the Huntington Hospital by the Huntington Community First Aid Squad, where he remained in serious condition as of Saturday morning.
It's not clear how long he was in the pool before being rescued. A police spokesman said the agency does not suspect any criminality.
