Nesconset man accused of mortgage fraud
A Nesconset man who forged signatures on loan documents faces felony charges of residential mortgage fraud, falsifying business records and criminal possession of a forged instrument, State Police said Tuesday.
Steven J. Bonocore, 51, was arrested Monday on the charges after appearing at Onondaga County Supreme Court in Syracuse for a divorce hearing, police said.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
Police said Bonocore submitted loan documents with forged signatures to Wells Fargo Bank and obtained a line of credit against property he owned with his estranged wife totaling $73,000.
The credit application was submitted without her knowledge; when she learned of the application, she notified State Police and an investigation followed.
