One person was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center with smoke inhalation after a small fire broke out in a Nesconset motel early Friday, Suffolk County police said.

Police said the fire broke out in the bathroom of an occupied room at America's Best Value Inn at 755 Nesconset Hwy. at about 3 a.m.

One person staying in the room is suffering from smoke inhalation, police said.

The Nesconset Fire Department responded, and motel manager Raj Gandhi said the fire was put out quickly.

Gandhi said he did not know how the fire started.

Police said the Smithtown fire marshal also responded to the scene and the fire did not appear to be criminal in nature.
