An armed man tied up two female employees before stealing cash from a New York & Company clothing store Monday night on Montauk Highway in West Babylon, police said.

The women freed themselves and ran to a nearby store after the suspect fled -- then managed to call 911, Suffolk County police said. They were not injured.

The suspect, face partially covered, entered the store at about 9:10 p.m., displayed a handgun, ordered the women to a back room and tied them up, police said.

He then stole cash from the register and fled the store.

Additional details were not immediately available.

It was not clear how much was taken and it was not clear if police recovered evidence at the robbery scene.
