A Greenport woman with nine prior suspensions of her driver's license was arrested early Saturday -- on a charge of driving without a license, Southold Town police said.

Niesha Shelby, 31, was driving a 1998 Dodge van when she was stopped by police on South Street in Greenport at 12:37 a.m. because of an expired registration, authorities said.

Police said they discovered that Shelby had nine previous suspensions on her nondriver identification.

She is charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and driving without proper registration, both misdemeanors. She was processed and released on $100 bail.
