Weeknight lane closures are scheduled on the Long Island Expressway in Melville for the next three weeks, the state Department of Transportation said Monday.

The traffic disruption, needed for maintenance work on the Bagatelle Road bridge, will begin with the closure of all westbound lanes of the LIE at Exit 50 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Friday, weather permitting. When that work is completed, the DOT will close all eastbound lanes at Exit 50 from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Friday.

The project, expected to take three weeks, could be postponed or prolonged because of inclement weather, the DOT said.

Drivers who do not use alternate routes should expect delays, and will be detoured to the expressway's service roads, the DOT said.
