A Greenlawn man was crushed to death by a van as he worked under it Friday in North Amityville, police said.

The accident happened at a Brown Avenue home just before 4:25 p.m., Suffolk County police said.

Michael Callejo, 59, was working under a 2001 Ford van at the time, police said.

"He was working on his car there, and somehow it slipped out of gear and crushed him," homicide Det. Sgt. James McGuinness said.

Callejo was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Homicide detectives are investigating.
