A water main break that closed one lane of the Northern State Parkway in Smithtown early Tuesday morning, was repaired -- and the road opened -- at 12:32 p.m.

State Police and the New York State Department of Transportation said the main had broken between Veterans Memorial Highway and Exit 45, the Sunken Meadow-Sagtikos Parkway, forcing the lane closure at 5:28 a.m.

Police said the break forced the westbound lane closure -- but said eastbound traffic was unaffected by the break.

The cause of the break was not immediately known.
