The driver of a pickup truck was killed after he crashed into trees along the Northern State Parkway in Dix Hills on Thursday night, authorities said.

John Delehanty, 56, of East Northport, was going east when his 1994 Dodge Ram pickup truck veered off the road just west of Exit 42, Route 231, State Police said. He was taken to Huntington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

About 25 Dix Hills firefighters and paramedics were called about 9:30 p.m. to help extricate and treat the driver, said Steve Silverman, the fire department's spokesman.

"They had to smash the window in order to get him out of the car," Silverman said.

Troopers from the State Police barracks in Brentwood responded to the single-vehicle accident.

The investigation is ongoing. Any witnesses are asked to call 631-756-3300.
