Northern state reopens after car crash
Northern State Parkway in Melville has been reopened after a one-car accident led to the closure of all but one lane during the afternoon rush hour, state police said.
The car hit the center divider between east- and westbound lanes at 4:11 p.m. near Exit 40, which is Route 110, police said. The state has been revamping the interchange at that location as part of a $56 million renovation project that started in May 2010.
Due to the location, all eastbound lanes had been closed and just one westbound lane had been open, police said shortly after the accident.
The driver was taken to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said, and no charges were filed.
