NYPD cop from LI injured in suspect chase
A New York City police officer from Long Island was hospitalized with a concussion and broken collarbone after tumbling Friday night from a fire escape while chasing a suspect in Brooklyn.
The officer, Francisco Allevato, 23, of Dix Hills, dropped about 15 feet, police said.
The incident happened shortly before 9 p.m. in Brooklyn's Brownsville section.
Allevato was taken to Kings County Hospital.
"They think he's going to be OK. He's strong," said Daniel Garcia, 22, of Dix Hills, a close friend.
Police said the suspect, an 18-year-old man, was arrested and charged with drug possession and other crimes.
