A young woman on a Long Island Expressway overpass in Suffolk was saved from her suicide attempt on Tuesday by two New York City police officers who were on their way to work in Queens, the NYPD said.

Spotting her along Patchogue-Holbrook Road, officers Shaun Ryan of Holbrook and Michael Grosso of Bellport stopped, identified themselves and began speaking with her, police said.

While Grosso continued the conversation, Ryan halted a car that was driving by and instructed its occupants to call 911.

Ryan rejoined his fellow officer, and while Grosso was chatting with her, they both "were able to physically move the woman to safety until Suffolk County police arrived and were able to bring her to the hospital," the NYPD spokesman said.

No further details were immediately available.
