Oak Beach home briefly involved with Gilgo case for sale

An Oak Beach home whose owner was briefly linked to one of the most notorious murder mysteries in Suffolk County history is up for sale.
The wood-paneled beach house at 47 Larboard Ct. was listed Oct. 10 for $399,000, according to real estate records.
Two summers ago, the owner of the home, Dr. Peter Hackett, was questioned by Suffolk detectives in connection with the disappearance of Shannan Gilbert, 24, a Jersey City prostitute last seen in May 2010 running from a client's beach house nearby.
The case garnered nationwide attention after detectives searching for Gilbert discovered four women's bodies in nearby Gilgo Beach seven months after she vanished and concluded it was the work of a serial killer. Other human remains were later found along nearby Ocean Parkway, suggesting to detectives there was more than one person responsible for the killings.
Gilbert's remains were found in the Oak Beach community last December. On May 1, two years to the day after she disappeared, her family and their attorney were told by a Suffolk authorities that her autopsy was inconclusive. Her remains have yet to be released to her family.
The former police surgeon, a board member of the Oak Beach homeowners association at the time, was ruled out as a suspect.
Moriches-based Realtor Century 21 Cor-Ace Realty, Inc. has listed the home for a short sale.
The house has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, an unfinished basement and is described as being located in a "private charming gated community" that "offers excellent views of Fire Island Inlet from the upper level decking along with beaches/boating for your enjoyment!"
The first floor has an office den, bedroom and a full bathroom. The second has an eat-in kitchen, living room, three bedrooms and a full bathroom. Annual property taxes run $14,875. An additional $3,200 a year in rent goes to Babylon, which owns the land the home sits on.
The home is the second put up for sale in the Oak Beach community with an owner linked to the case. Gilbert was last seen fleeing from the first home, which has been on the market since March 2011. She had been called there through a Craigslist ad by Joseph Brewer, who is listed as the home's owner.
Suffolk police said Brewer was not a suspect in Gilbert's disappearance either. His house was first listed for $439,000 and is now listed for $337,500. Shannan Gilbert's mother, Mari Gilbert, said early on that Hackett called her shortly after her daughter disappeared. Police questioned Hackett after Mari Gilbert said he told her he ran a halfway house for runaway children and Shannan Gilbert visited him the day she disappeared.
