Six people, two of them children, were injured in a two-car crash Monday night on the south service road of the Long Island Expressway in Dix Hills, a fire official said.

The crash occurred at Deer Park Avenue at 9:30 p.m., a spokesman for the Dix Hills Fire Department said.

Thirty firefighters and rescue personnel from Dix Hills, along with three heavy rescue trucks, three ambulances, first-responder and paramedic units, responded to the scene.

The injured were transported by the Dix Hills Rescue Squad to both Huntington Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip.

The extent of the injuries -- and, the conditions of those injured -- were unknown.
