A man was hospitalized Saturday after his hand was nearly severed in a yardwork accident in South Huntington.

The 40-year-old man was using a miniature circular saw to trim a shrub outside a Floral Avenue home when the saw cut into his hand about 9:45 a.m., said Steve Silverman, spokesman for Huntington’s fire departments.

Silverman said the Huntington Community First Aid Squad, Huntington Manor Fire Department and Suffolk County police were called to the scene.

The man was treated at the scene and taken by helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, he said.

A Suffolk police spokeswoman said the man’s injuries were not life-threatening. His identity was not released.
