A gas leak near the Route 110 construction zone at the Northern State Parkway in Melville was repaired late Wednesday, with the road to reopen about 8:30 p.m., a National Grid spokeswoman said.

"It's fixed and safe," said spokeswoman Wendy Ladd.

Repair crews pinpointed a gas leak in that construction zone, and as repairs were made, one lane of northbound Route 110 was closed between Old Country Road and the Northern State through most of Wednesday, company officials said.

Ladd said the roadway had to be repaved, which has delayed the reopening of Route 110. "They're waiting for the tarmac to cool," she said.

The cause of the leak is still being investigated, but it is not believed to have impacted area businesses or residences.

National Grid said the leak did not cause evacuations and no injuries have been reported.
