Officials: About 150 animals removed from Medford home

About 150 animals were being removed Tuesday from a home on Lincoln Road in Medford, officials said.
The animals, which include dogs, cats, lizards, birds, turtles, chinchillas, rats, rabbits, ferrets and hamsters, were being turned over voluntarily by their owner and will be examined by veterinarians, said chief Roy Gross of the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which is investigating.
The Brookhaven Town building department went into the home Tuesday and condemned it, said Jack Krieger, town spokesman. The occupants were there and "very cooperative, assisting in the animal removal," said Krieger, who added that he did not know their names.
The dogs and most of the cats were going to the Brookhaven Town animal shelter, Gross said, while other animals went to the Save the Animals Rescue Foundation, a private volunteer organization. "The target," he said, "is to get those animals that are adoptable to be adopted."
