A late-night fire Tuesday destroyed a house in Centereach, police and fire officials said.

Suffolk County police said arson investigators were on scene at the home on Forest Road. Police said preliminary indications are that, while the cause is undetermined, the fire does not appear criminal.

Two people -- a resident of the home and a neighbor -- were taken to a hospital, where both were treated and released, police said.

Initial reports from the scene indicated no injuries had occurred in the blaze, which was reported just before 10 p.m.

County fire officials said volunteers from Centereach, Ronkonkoma, Selden and Nesconset battled the fire.
