Officials lift advisory on swimming in Great Pond Bay
An advisory issued Tuesday against swimming in Great Pond at Peconic Dunes Camp in Peconic has been lifted, Suffolk County health officials said Thursday.
The advisory resulted from bacteria found at levels higher than state standards, and was lifted after waters were flushed by two successive tidal cycles, officials said.
Swimming in such contaminated water "can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose and throat," said Dr. James Tomarken, county health commissioner.
