Firefighters responded to a blaze at a residence in West Islip shortly after 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

West Islip Fire Department Chief Scott Harvey said nobody was in the home when firefighters arrived and that no civilians were injured. Harvey said it took about an hour to bring the fire under control and that the structure was moderately damaged.

Two West Islip firefighters and one firefighter from the North Babylon Fire Department were taken to a nearby hospital for heat-related injuries, treated and released, Harvey said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, Harvey said.
