Officials: No swimming at Centerport beach due to bacteria
The Huntington Beach Community Association beach in Centerport, has been closed to swimming as a result of unacceptably high levels of bacteria, Suffolk County health officials said Wednesday.
Remaining closed for the same reason are: Tides Beach, Beach Road Beach, Broadway Beach, Friendship Drive Beach — all in Rocky Point; Sound Beach Property Owners Association beach; and Valley Grove Beach in Eatons Neck.
Swimming in contaminated water “can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose and throat,” according to a health department news release.
To learn more and stay up to date on affected beaches, residents can call the county’s beach hotline at 631-852-5822 or check www.suffolkcountyny.gov/health.
