Arson Squad and Crime Scene detectives are investigating a fire that killed a man in Brentwood on Wednesday morning, Suffolk County police and fire officials said.

Officials said the fire that destroyed the home on Fairdale Drive, near Wicks Road, was reported at 6:45 a.m.

"When the first officer arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames," Suffolk County police said in a news release. "Members from the Brentwood Fire Department entered the home and found a man and a dog dead in a rear bedroom."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the Suffolk County medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to confirm the victim's identity, officials said.

East Brentwood, Commack, Dix Hills and Bay Shore firefighters also responded to the scene. No firefighters were injured.
