Officials: Residents, firefighter hurt in fire

Two residents and a volunteer firefighter were taken to Huntington Hospital after being injured in an early morning fire Friday at a house in Greenlawn, Suffolk County police and fire officials said.

The residents were a man and woman who suffered smoke inhalation, officials said. Fire officials said the firefighter suffered burns, but said they were not severe. None of the injuries was life-threatening, officials said. Officials said the firefighter serves with the Greenlawn Fire Department.

A fire official said seven adults were in the home on Cuba Hill Road when the fire was reported at 5:20 a.m. Five residents escaped without injury, the official said.

Fire officials said volunteers from eight departments -- Greenlawn, Centerport, Commack, Dix Hills, Kings Park, East Northport, Huntington Manor and Huntington -- responded to the blaze, as did Commack Ambulance.

Officials said the fire was out at 7:30 a.m.

Police said the house was "badly damaged" and that Arson Squad detectives and the Huntington Town fire marshal were on the scene, though it was unclear if that was just procedural because people were injured in the blaze.
