Officials: Smithtown school bus driver bullied students

A Smithtown school bus driver accused of bullying elementary school students has been fired, district officials said Thursday.
The male driver, who has not been identified, had been driving students to and from Mills Pond Elementary in St. James, officials said.
The school was made aware of the bullying allegations on Tuesday, sparking an immediate investigation, said Smithtown school board president Gladys Waldron.
Waldron said the driver was fired Wednesday by Towne Bus Co., which has a contract with the Smithtown Central School District.
"We're still investigating," Waldron said. "But he's gone from Smithtown; he will never drive for us" again.
Suffolk County police said no police report has been filed in the case.
Towne Bus officials could not be reached for comment.
