The final impact of Sunday's snowstorm might be unclear, but at least one thing's for certain: Stay off the roads.

That's the message Long Island officials want to send to anyone who is thinking of setting out on any nonessential travel Sunday during a storm that is expected to couple high winds with near zero visibility.

"If you don't have to travel on a day like today, don't travel," said Officer James Imperiale of the Nassau County Police Department. "If you do have to go out, take it slow. Don't be in a rush."

That was a message echoed by Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano.

"This storm will create treacherous conditions. Our county workforce will be working hard to keep the streets safe, and you can help by keeping cars off the road," he said. "Please stay indoors today."

In Nassau County, the roads were quiet and relatively free of fender-benders in the early afternoon, Imperiale said. Suffolk County Police couldn't provide any information on roadway conditions or weather-related accidents.
